Request under the Official Information Act 1982 – Notification of extension
Thank you for your email of 7 December 2023, requesting information from Te Pūkenga – New
Zealand Institute of Skil s and Technology (Te Pūkenga).
You requested information regarding email communications from relevant senior leadership team
members, as listed on the Te Pūkenga website, as follows:
Specifically, I am interested in communications that discuss potential changes in priorities for the
new government, any dialogue about the future state of Te Pūkenga, and discussions related to
future planning. This includes considerations of signals for changes, general concerns surrounding
possible adjustments aligned with National's signalled 100-day action plan, or any other matters
of a similar nature.
To narrow the scope of the request, I am specifically interested in emails sent or received from the
night of the New Zealand General Election (Saturday, 14 October 2023) up to the date this email is
received and processed.
On 20 December 2023, you kindly refined your request with my office by providing keywords
“
National [government]” and “
100 day plan” as keyword search terms.
I am writing to let you know that we are extending the timeframe for making a decision on your
request by 14 working days. You can expect a decision on your request by 16 February 2024. This
extension is being made under sections 15A(1)(a) and (b) of the Official Information Act (OIA).
Searching for information that may fal within scope of your request necessitates a search through
the emails of the nine senior leaders who were listed on Te Pūkenga website as at the date of your
request. It is then important for us to take the time to consider each email and any accompanying
attachments for possible inclusion and release. Some of the leaders involved have subsequently left
Te Pūkenga, which has added a required layer of technical mahi (work) to access their email
communications. Taking this into account, as wel as the recent change in government direction and
the work required to give effect to this, meeting the original timeframe would unreasonably interfere
with the operations of Te Pūkenga kaimahi.
Additional y, once any information within scope has been identified and col ated, as part of our
consideration of your request, it may be necessary for us to carry out consultations about release of
that information. The consultations necessary to make a decision on the request take time, meaning
the request cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit.
While we are working hard to be able to respond to your request by 26 January, we are concerned
that this wil not be possible for us and feel it best to advise you of an extension. Please be assured
that we wil do our very best to get the response out to you as soon as possible and prior to 16
February if at all possible.
We thank you for your patience. If you have any questions about this extension or your request,
please do not hesitate to contact Johnny Tramoundanas-Can, Government Relations Director, via
email at: [email address].
You have the right to make a complaint to the Ombudsman under section 28(3) of the OIA if you are
not happy with this extension. Information about how to do this is available at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or by cal ing 0800 802 602.
Ngā mihi
