Kia ora James,
Following on from our discussion this morning, we are getting in touch with a quick overview on the next steps for Resource
Consenting at Teitei Drive and updates to the community that are being shared this week. Please let us know if you need any more
information.
Teitei Drive Development Update
Teitei Drive is a partnership between Development Partners Ruapehu District Council, Kainga Ora – Homes & Communities and
Ngāti Rangi.
The Project team will be implementing a revised consenting strategy for the proposed mixed housing development in Ohakune.
To enable the development of the land for these homes, in December 2021 the Government approved providing $5.2million
funding from the Crown Infrastructure Partners (CIP).
This funding is essential for the development of the infrastructure on the site to make sure the future homes will have access to
power, telecommunication, water and roading.
To ensure we can meet the timing criteria of the CIP funding, Kāinga Ora, on behalf of the partners, is planning to submit a resource
consent application (Stage 1) in early 2024 for enabling earthworks on the site. Once this is granted, we will be able to get the
infrastructure work underway. The land use and subdivision will be part of a second resource consent application (Stage 2) to be
lodged mid-2024.
Undertaking the consent in two stages will allow us to get the infrastructure work underway with central government funding, while
also ensuring we have adequate time to undertake further engagement with the community, giving them opportunities to provide
feedback and have their questions answered.
Later this week, we will inform the community via an email/letter drop about this approach. An FAQ will be available on our website
(Teitei Drive :: Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities (kaingaora.govt.nz)) and we will proactively reach out to a few local media
contacts who have shown an interest in this development.
This email/letter drop is part of a wider community engagement plan that supports the proposal.
