Minister
Dear T Murray
This letter responds to your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request received by Sport New
Zealand (Sport NZ) on 1 December 2023 requesting information about the first meeting between
Sport NZ officials and the new Minister for Sport and Recreation, Hon Chris Bishop. For ease of
response, each question will be answered in turn.
o The date, time and location of your initial meeting with the new Minister for your
department;
o A list of attendees at this meeting
Hon Chris Bishop, Minister for Sport and Recreation, diary has been published here on the
parliamentary website. Therefore, this part of your request is refused under section 18(d) of the
OIA as the information is publicly available.
o The cost of any flights and accommodation for staff who reside outside of wellington to
attend this meeting
The total cost of flights to attend the meeting was $1,011.44. No accommodation was required.
o Any documentation provided at the meeting
There were no documents provided at the meeting, therefore this part of your request is refused
under section 18(e) of the OIA as the document/s do not exist.
o All notes (including handwritten notes) taken at the meeting by department staff;
o A copy of any emails sent by department attendees or all staff communications
regarding the meeting with the new Minister.
Please find attached as Appendix One, a copy of all emails relating to the meeting.

Some information withheld under section 9(g)(i) of the Act to maintain the effective conduct of
public affairs through the free and frank expression of opinions by or between or to Ministers of the
Crown or members of an organisation or officers and employees of any public service agency or
organisation in the course of their duty.
Information has been withheld under section 9(2)(a) of the OIA to protect the privacy of natural
persons. In accordance with section 9(1) of the OIA I have considered whether there are
countervailing public interest considerations in favour of releasing this information. I do not believe
such considerations exist in this instance.
Further information is withheld as outside of scope as it does not relate to the request.
