Response to your request for Official Information
On 24 December 2023, you requested the following information from the Human Rights
Commission (“the Commission”) under the Official Information Act 1982 (“OIA”) as a
follow up to our OIA response to you dated 22 December 2023:
Why did the staff headcount drop?
“we confirm the following headcounts of Commission employees on the dates
specified below:
• 15 November 2021 – 86 employees
• 11 December 2023 – 71 employees”
Please share:
1. the budget changes for FTEs, and
2. the exit reasons for a drop of over 15 percent in your staff headcount.
We set out our responses to each of your requests below.
Request 1 – Budget changes for FTEs
In response to your first request, we confirm that the Commission’s budgeted FTE was:
• 88 in November 2021, and
• 80 in December 2023.
Request 2 – Staff exit reasons
In response to your second request, we note there were a range of exit reasons for staff
who left the Commission in the period between November 2021 and December 2023,
including resignation, fixed-term contracts ending, and redundancy.
