Thank you for your request of Tuesday, 31 October 2023 under the Official Information Act 1982
(the Act) regarding total votes for special and overseas votes. Specifically, you have asked for:
Please give me in open file format a spreadsheet (and PDF format) of the last 10 elections
totals for special votes and overseas votes - detailed by electorate.
The information you have requested for the past nine elections, excluding 2023, is currently publicly
available. The information you have requested about the 2023 general election will be made publicly
available on Monday 27 November 2023. On this basis, your request is refused under section 18(d)
of the Act.

This will take you to a table which lists each electorate alongside the special votes that were
cast in 2020, which includes overseas votes. If you select ‘csv’ at the bottom of the table, the
results will be converted into a spreadsheet.
Follow the same process for the elections of 2017, 2014, 2011, 2008, and 2005.
For the elections of 2002, 1999, and 1996, the Party and Candidate special vote totals are contained
in the same file, but are still distinguished from one another in the corresponding table. Select
section 2.3 to find your requested statistics for each of these elections.
The statistics for the 2023 general election, which will include the breakdown of special and overseas
votes, will be published on the New Zealand election results website on Monday 27 November 2023.
