OIA: 1318675 – Clause 9 exemptions that were received and approved for unvaccinated 
workers 

Thank you for your email of 10 October 2023 to the Ministry of Education (the Ministry) requesting 
the following information, relating to the exemptions that were available for those who were not 
getting vaccinated against COVID-19 under clause 9 of the COVID-19 Public Health Response 
(Vaccinations) Order 2021. 
Your request has been considered under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act).  
Education-related applications were received and processed by the Ministry. All decisions on these 
applications were Ministerial decisions. My response to your questions is set out below. 
  How many such clause 9 CEO operational exemptions were received? 
A total of seven operational exemption applications were received. 
  Please share the break down by school type, eg integrated, private, state funded.  
Of the seven applications received, six schools were state-funded and one school was 
integrated. 
  How many were approved, total number? 
None of the applications were approved. 
  A breakdown by school type for the above approvals in 3. 
As advised above, no applications were approved.
