Thank you for your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) to Manatū Hauora 
(the Ministry of Health) on 10 September 2023 for information regarding the New Zealand 
Health Surveys. Each part of your request is responded to below:  
Please provide all questions asked in the New Zealand Health Surveys for each of the last 
10 years.  
All survey questions asked in the New Zealand Health Survey from 2012/13 to 2021/22 can be 
found online as publicly available information at: https://www.health.govt.nz/nz-health-
statistics/surveys/new-zealand-health-survey. Therefore, this part of your request is refused 
under section 18(d) of the Act. 
Please include the 2023 survey questions. 
Four documents were identified relating to the 2022/23 and 2023/24 New Zealand Health 
Survey questionnaires. All documents are itemised in Appendix 1 and have been released to 
you in full. 
The 2022/23 and 2023/24 New Zealand Health Survey questionnaires will become publicly 
available in November 2023 and November 2024 respectively, as the questionnaires are 
published online when the Annual Results are published each November. These will be found 
online at: https://www.health.govt.nz/nz-health-statistics/surveys/new-zealand-health-survey.  
Please provide participant numbers and demographics (age, race, gender, locality) for 
each survey year. 
Each survey year, information about sample size numbers for each age group, ethnic group, 
gender, neighbourhood deprivation (NZDep) and disability status are found in the Methodology 
Report. This information requested is refused under section 18(d) of the Act as this is publicly 
available information, which is found online at: https://www.health.govt.nz/nz-health-
statistics/surveys/new-zealand-health-survey. 
Information about locality or race is not collected as part of the New Zealand Health Survey, 
therefore details for locality and race are refused under section 18(g)(i) of the Act as this 
information is not held.
