Dear East Skate Club
Request made under the Official Information Act 1982
Thank you for your email
of 4 September 2023 requesting the following information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act):
With so much focus and annual spend towards cycling activities, I would like to request the info
and costs/spend on skate and scooter activities, such as have a go days and active transport
initiatives/skate hubs
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency does not run any “active transport initiatives” or “have a go” days
encouraging people to take up skating and scooting. However, we do provide some resources to help
other groups such as councils educate people about safe skating and scooting.
One of these resources is the
Hike it, Bike it, Scoot it, Skate it brochure for whānau and caregivers to
help teach children about staying safe on roads and near railways. Councils and community groups,
for instance, can order hard copies of the brochure as part of their information displays, and it can be
accessed at https://education.nzta.govt.nz/teacher-resources/school-community-partnerships/road-
safety-advice-for-families/.
We also provide other safety information and resources about scooters, which can be accessed at
https://education.nzta.govt.nz/teacher-resources/school-community-partnerships/scooter-safety-tips/,
and about skateboarding safely which can be accessed at https://education.nzta.govt.nz/teacher-
resources/school-community-partnerships/skateboard-and-bike-tips/.
In line with Waka Kotahi policy, this response will soon be published on our website, with personal
information removed.
If you would like to discuss this reply with Waka Kotahi, please contact us by email to
[NZTA request email].
Yours sincerely
