OFFICIAL  INFORMATION  ACT  1982  (OIA)  –  REQUEST  FOR  INFORMATION  -  CHRISTCHURCH 
INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT LIMITED (CIAL)

We write further to our email of 28 August 2023, acknowledging receipt of your email of the same 
date (via the third party public platform fyi.org.nz) in which you requested information pursuant to 
the OIA in relation to the following statement which has appeared on CIAL’s Central Otago Airport 
project website (the Website): “The aviation industry accounts for 2% of New Zealand’s emissions 
and  is  taking  urgent  action  to  address  climate  change  through  decarbonisation”  (the  Website 
Statement).

Your request specifically asks, in relation to the Website Statement, “what is that source and date of 
this  statistic,  and  please  provide  any  correspondence  referencing  this  statistic  during  2023”  (the 
Request).

CIAL acknowledges that the Website Statement which you refer to in your Request did, inadvertently, 
appear previously on one page of the Website. However, consistent with other data contained or 
referred  to  on  the  Website,  this  should  have  referred  to  global  emissions  and,  as  part  of  CIAL’s 
regular  updates  to  its  website  content,  has  now  been  updated.  CIAL  does  not  hold  any 
correspondence  referencing  the  particular  statistic  you  refer  to  being  contained  in  the  Website 
Statement  during  2023,  except  for  a  small  amount  of  internal  correspondence  generated  in  the 
course of responding to this Request and one previous OIA request CIAL received on similar subject 
matter  (the  response  to  which  is  also  publicly  available  on  the  FYI.org  website).  We  note  this 
correspondence is legally privileged and withheld under section 9(2)(h) of the OIA.
