Request for information 
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 24 August 2023. You 
asked for information regarding He Aranga Ake.  
My response to each part of your request can be found below. 
1. The total number of individuals who are being monitored by or are involved in
the de-radicalisation processes it relates to He Aranga Ake
The total number of persons in the He Aranga Ake framework (HAA) is supporting to 
disengage is currently eight. HAA does not have a monitoring function. 
2. The region of New Zealand in which each individual resides
Due to the current small numbers of persons within HAA, the providing of regional 
information, especially if combined with the information sought in your question 3, could 
lead to the identification of those involved. 
This information is withheld under the following grounds: 
•
section 6(c) of the OIA, as the making available of this information would be likely
to prejudice the maintenance of the law, including the prevention, investigation
and detection of offences and the right to a fair trial
•
section 9(2)(a) of the OIA, to protect the privacy of natural persons
•
section 9(2)(c) of the OIA, to avoid prejudice to measures protecting the health or
safety of members of the public.
3. The specific ideological or faith-based component (motivations detailed in
Know the Signs) for which they are being investigated or interacted with as a
result of the He Aranga Ake framework
Due to the current small numbers of persons within HAA, providing the specific 
breakdown of ideology is withheld under the fol owing grounds: 
•
section 6(c) of the OIA, as the making available of this information is likely to
prejudice the maintenance of the law including the prevention, investigation and
detection of offences and the right to a fair trial, and
•
section 9(2)(a) of the OIA, to protect the privacy of natural persons, and
•
section 9(2)(c) of the OIA, to avoid prejudice to measures protecting the health or
safety of members of the public

4. The specific agencies involved in each individual case (i.e Police, NZSIS,
DPMC, NAB, GCSB, Justice, Social Development, Education, Health,
Corrections, and inter-agency organisations such as CTAG
DPMC, NAB, GCSB, Justice and CTAG are not involved in the operation of HAA. 
This information is withheld under: 
•
section 6(c) of the OIA, as the making available of this information is likely to
prejudice the maintenance of the law including the prevention, investigation and
detection of offences and the right to a fair trial.
Police considers the interests requiring protection by withholding the information outlined 
in questions two and three are not outweighed by any public interest in release of the 
information.
