OFFICIAL INFORMATION ACT 1982 (OIA) – REQUEST FOR INFORMATION -
CHRISTCHURCH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT LIMITED (CIAL)

We write further to our email of 21 August 2023, acknowledging receipt of your OIA
request (the
Request) of 20 August 2023 seeking information (if held by CIAL) in
relation to the relationship between population size and airport needs.
Request: Received 17 August 2023 – Analysis of population vs airport needs
“Please share with me all correspondence, documentation and presentations which
discuss the relationship between population size and need for airport capacity -
including other regions around NZ and international examples.”

CIAL has set out publicly available information on the relationship between population
size, demand for air connectivity and airport capacity as it relates to Central Otago.
This is available on the Project Website. Your Request is too broad in scope, relates to
matters beyond the scope of the Project and contemplates information not held by
CIAL and therefore, we will be unable to provide you with this level of information
under Section 18(f) of the OIA. Requests for information as it relates to other airports
should be directed to those airports.

In addition, if we were to comply with the breadth of your Request (which will have a
significant impact on CIAL’s ability to carry out its commercial operations), please be
mindful about our ability to charge you for the time involved to extract the level of
information you are requesting (as per Section 15(1A) of the OIA).
