Request under the Official Information Act 1982 
Thank you for your email of 14 August 2023, requesting the fol owing information from Te Pūkenga 
– New Zealand Institute of Skil s and Technology (Te Pūkenga): 
… whether the comments made by chief of staff, Ziena Jalil, when moderating, MC facilitating or 
speaking at events (not related to Te Pūkenga) are supported by the organisation. Specifically 
political and education comments. 
This letter provides a formal decision on your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA). 
The decision 
Te Pūkenga has some 10,000 kaimahi, many of whom, in their personal time, variously engage in 
events, not directly related to their work for Te Pūkenga. The Public Service Commission provides 
guidance on the rights, freedoms and responsibilities of both public servants and agencies in these 
circumstances, which we are confident have been fol owed in this instance. 
 
You have the right to make a complaint to the Ombudsman under section 28(3) of the OIA if you are 
not happy with this response. Information about how to do this is available at
