Tēnā koe Andrew Arkins
Thank you for your email of 10 August 2023 in which you request the following under the Official
Information Act 1982 (OIA):
I am writing to kindly request information on the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP)
and Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) phenomena within the scope of the New Zealand
Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
As an individual with a keen interest in matters of national security and international
relations, I am intrigued by recent discussions surrounding UAP and UFO sightings
globally. In light of this, I would greatly appreciate your assistance in providing clarity on
the following points:
1. The New Zealand government's official stance or policy on investigating and reporting
UAP and UFO incidents.
2. Any available data, reports, or documentation related to UAP and UFO sightings in
New Zealand airspace.
3. Any collaborative efforts or engagements with international counterparts on the matter.
4. Procedures in place for reporting and documenting UAP and UFO incidents by civilian
or military personnel.
I understand that the UAP and UFO phenomena are complex topics that may involve
sensitive information. However, I believe that addressing these inquiries would
contribute to a better understanding of these occurrences and their potential implications.
Your insights would be invaluable in helping to shed light on this matter.
I am refusing your request for information under section 18(e) of the OIA, as the information you
have requested does not exist.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision by
contacting
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
