CHRISTCHURCH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT LIMITED (CIAL)

We write further to our email of 10 August 2023, acknowledging receipt of your OIA 
request (the Request) of 09 August 2023 seeking information (if held by CIAL) in 
relation to visitor numbers to the South Island. 
Request: Received 09 August 2023 – Visitor numbers to the South Island 
“Could I please have copies of all documents held by Christchurch Airport around 
visitor numbers to the South Island?  
 
Please include in this any surveys and modelling on tourist numbers, arrivals and 
travel patterns in the South Island? Both actual and projected? 
 
Plus also any documents, data, analyses or research into visitor/tourist 
opinions/views about travel to or around New Zealand. Including any analysis then 
undertaken by CIAL.” 
 
From the outset, we consider your Request too broad in scope and therefore, we will 
be unable to provide you with this level of information. This Request covers a large 
raft of correspondence which would need to be extracted from numerous sources and 
places internally. To do so, would involve the diversion of personnel for a substantial 
period of time to go through and collate the information you are requesting, with no 
defined period included.  
Therefore, your Request is refused under Section 18(f) of the OIA.

In addition, if we were to comply with this Request (which will have a significant impact 
on CIAL’s ability to carry out its commercial operations), please be mindful about our 
ability to charge you for the time involved to extract the level of information you are 
requesting (as per Section 15(1A) of the OIA).
