Dear S Zeng

Extending the time to respond to your request made under the Official Information Act 1982

Thank you for your e-mail of 29 July 2023 requesting the following information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act):

I would like to request the most recent National Land Transport (Road) Noise Map in geodatabase
format. Specifically, the ESRI geodatabase mentioned as output in 6.0 in this report, or the latest
version since the report's release: https://www.nzta.govt.nz/assets/Highways-Information-
Portal/Technical-disciplines/Noise-and-vibration/Research-and-information/Other-
research/national-land-transport-road-noise-map-2019-05-16.pdf

I would also prefer the map be released along with other supplemental information through the
NZTA's Open Data Portal https://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/open-data-portal/. Though if it will
slow down the release of this data, please send it to me instead.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency considers the Noise Maps to contain particularly sensitive
information for landowners and must therefore give careful consideration before a decision can be
made if they can be released. To assist with this decision making, we would like to provide you with an
opportunity to provide additional background information that may assist us with weighing up the
public interest with the release of the maps. While there is no obligation for you to provide a reason for
your request, information that we consider would be helpful includes the intended use and publication
of the maps and if there was a particular region or location that you were interested in.

To provide time for you to provide this additional information and for Waka Kotahi to consider it, I am
extending the 20 working days available to us to respond to your request as allowed for under section
15A of the Act. We need 10 more working days to respond to your request and will send you our
response on or before 8 September 2023.

Under section 28 of the Act, you have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review my decision to
extend the time we will take to respond to your request. You can find the contact details for the
Ombudsman at: www.ombudsman.parliament.nz.

If you would like to discuss this extension or clarify your request with Waka Kotahi, please contact us
via email to [NZTA request email]

Yours sincerely
