Thank you for your request, received on 26 July 2023, for the following information related to the
appointment of peer review panel members for Performance-Based Research Fund (PBRF) Quality
Evaluation 2026 under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act):
i.
How did you call for public nomination and on what platform you have call for public
nominations, e.g., govt.jobs website
ii.
How may applications you have received from the public and how many you have received
from other nominating agencies such as TPK or Ministry of women etc
iii.
How many have you shortlisted
iv.
Please supply the term of appointment and member’s pay rate
I can answer your questions, as below:
i.
The recent public nomination process was run via our website and through direct email
communication with participating tertiary education organisations (TEOs).
ii.
We received 245 nominations. These nominations were submitted by TEOs or by
individuals. There were no nominations from government agencies.
iii.
We did not ‘shortlist’ the nominations. All nominations received were assessed by Tertiary
Education Commission (TEC) staff against the published criteria.
iv.
For Panel Co-Chair appointments, the Moderator considered all nominations for these
roles, and TEC’s assessment against the published criteria, and made recommendations to
the TEC.

For appointment of panel members, the Panel Co-Chairs considered all nominations for
these roles, along with the TEC assessments, and made appointment recommendations to
the Moderators and the TEC. These recommendations were considered against the criteria
and TEC’s assessments.

This publication provides details about the Peer Review Panel nomination and selection
process for Quality Evaluation 2026 nominations, and the details of honorariums and the
term of appointments are on pages 15 and 16 (Appendix 1).
