In relation to the list of documents released to you by the National Library of New Zealand on
2 May 2023, you have asked for:
• The final donation deed [the deed] with the Internet Archive dated June 2021
• Tuesday 13 July 2021: forwarding of the Stuff article, with associated emails, from Chris
Freeland to Steve Knight and Brewster Kahle
• 8 March 2023: email Mark Crookston to Chris Freeland re update from NLNZ
• Friday 23 March 2023: document entitled "quick follow-up from our discussion."
In response to your request, I am releasing to you the information requested, attached as
Appendix A.
Details about the terms of the deed have been previously disclosed via proactive release in
2021. The deed has not been performed and no action will be considered until after the
finalisation of new removal and disposal policy, of which you have been informed. None of
the Overseas Published Col ections have been shipped offshore for digitisation.
Some material contained in the attachments has been withheld under Section 9(2)(a) of the
Act to protect the privacy of natural persons.
I consider that the withholding of information is not outweighed by other considerations
which render it desirable, in the public interest, to make the information available.
As this information may be of interest to other members of the public, the decision has been
made to proactively release a copy of this response on the Department of Internal Affairs
website at a later date. All requester data, including your name and contact details, will be
removed prior to release. The released response will be made available here:
