We refer to your request for information dated 23 June 2023 in relation to the Salisbury Road portion of the
Birkdale Primary School Safe School Speeds project.

How much was traffic management for this project?
The total estimated Traffic Management cost is $155,854.64 and the costs to end of June 2023 is
$62,699.30

Am I able to receive a total amount of how much this project was and an itemised list of what the cost
were?
The overal project costs for the trial was $170347.12.
The costs to the end of June 2023 for the permanent project is approximately $457,299.23 The full costs of
the permanent project wil not be known until the project is ful y completed.
Your request for an itemised list is withheld as it is commercial y sensitive. Under the Local Government
Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 AT can withhold information as its release would be likely
prejudice the commercial position of the contractor. This is in accordance with section 7(2)(b)i of the Act.
AT does however regularly publish on the AT website a list of awarded contracts; this information is update

Can i get the names of the people who were in charge of this project?
Approval for projects are not made or signed off solely by one individual or decision maker, project decisions
are collective and involve multiple personnel from various departments within AT such as communications
specialists, community transport, road safety engineers, road maintenance teams, operations planning and
performance teams, engineering design engineers. The Project Sponsor of the trial was Claire Dixon
(community transport), the Project Manager for the delivery phases of the project was Steve Anderton, both
are unfortunately no longer with AT.

What was the cost of downgrading the road compared to upgrading it? ie, total cost of what each one
would of cost.
This information cannot be provided because it does not exist, AT does not have any information related to
“downgrading” the road. Therefore, we are refusing this under section 17(e) of the LGOIMA as the
information does not exist.

Did you take into consideration of how the community felt when asked about this project? From memory
there was a petition against it, did you consider the petition when residents asked for this project to be
stopped?
Al feedback received on the project was fully reviewed and considered by AT. The temporary changes were
the outcome of the co-design process between Auckland Transport (AT) and Birkdale Primary School that
took place between December 2020 and February 2021. The design included a simplified road layout, kerb
buildouts to slow traffic and artwork to signal to al road users that this is a school area and slow speeds /
extra care is needed.
The project has a dedicated webpage providing up to date timelines and information, members of the public
could also enquire about the project via an email address provided on the project page.

How many people turned up to the public meeting of this project?
AT engaged with residents, business, and educational institutions throughout the project. This included
holding a workshop with the Kaipatiki Local Board in February 2023 to showcase and seek endorsement of
the permanent scheme. Engagement activities included:
− A drop-in session for the permanent design was held on Wednesday 5th April 2023
− Letter drops to properties within the project’s vicinity (distribution map below)
− A dedicated webpage providing up to date timelines and information
− 11 pieces of feedback were received prior to installing the permanent scheme

How many times did trucks come by to sweep the loose pebbles?
This information cannot be provided because it does not exist, AT does not have any information related to
sweeping loose pebbles as part of the project. Therefore, we are refusing this under section 17(e) of the
LGOIMA as the information does not exist.
