Thank you for your email of 19 June 2023 requesting information relating to commercial
landings of a vessel in Rangaunu Harbour. Your request has been considered under the
Official Information Act 1982 (OIA).
You requested the following:
I'm after information on the following vessel please:
Commercial vessel "Marara" MNZ 133969 SOP no. F0396
1. How many days a year does the vessel "Marara" MNZ 133969 fish in
Rangaunu Harbour since 2018 ((The waters of Rangaunu Harbour lying inside
a straight line drawn from Blackney Point (at 34°51.70′S and 173°17.20′E) to
Otiaia Point (at 34°53.80′S and 173°16.80′E)).
2. How much Annual Catch Entitlement [ACE] is leased per year by the
owner/operator of vessel "Marara" MNZ 133969 (since 2018)?
3. How much [weight] of the following species have been landed annually since
2018

Kahawai, Arripis trutta, KAH
•

Questions 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6:
The information you have requested in questions 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6 is withheld under the following
sections of the OIA:
• s9(2)(b)(ii) – to
protect information where the making available of the information
would be likely unreasonably to prejudice the commercial position of the person who
is the subject of the information, and
• s9(2)(ba)(i) – to
protect information which is subject to an obligation of confidence or
which any person has been or could be compelled to provide under the authority of
any enactment, where the making available of the information would be likely to
prejudice the supply of similar information, or information from the same source, and
it is in the public interest that such information should continue to be supplied
The Ministry for Primary Industries is satisfied that in the circumstances of this case, the
withholding of the information is not outweighed by other considerations which render it
desirable in the public interest to make the information available.

With reference to section 18(d) of the OIA, this information is publicly available and can be
accessed from FishServe.
FishServe is a seafood industry owned company that has a discrete and prescribed role within
