Thank you for your email of 17 June 2023 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) 
requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), the following information: 
 
“Please provide the Immigration internal assessment templates, training materials and 
assessment procedure regarding Parent Retirement Category applications.” 
 
Our Response 
 
Please refer to the fol owing attached appendices for the information requested relating to the Parent 
Retirement Category: 
 
•  Appendix one – Parent Retirement Category assessment templates, flowchart, and guidelines 
o  Some information has been withheld under section 9(2)(a) of the Act to protect the 
privacy of natural persons 
o  Some information has been withheld under section 6(c) of the Act to prevent prejudice 
in the maintenance of the law 
•  Appendix two – overview of the Parent Retirement Category 
•  Appendix three – Parent Retirement Category assessment guide 
 
Where section 9 applies, I have considered whether the need to withhold that information is outweighed 
by  other  considerations  which  render  it  desirable,  in  the  public  interest,  to  make  that  information 
available, in accordance with section 9(1) of the Act, however it is my opinion that it is not.
