I refer to your information request dated 15 June 2023 made under the Official Information Act 
1982. You have requested: 
 
“the total cost to the University of the recruitment drive which resulted in the selection of 
Prof David Murdoch as Vice Chancellor. 
 
By this I mean aspects such as international marketing costs, travel for all candidates and 
selection panel, and administrative work et cetera. A breakdown of all costs is not required, 
just a total figure.” 
 
 
In response to your request, we confirm that the total costs incurred in relation to the recruitment 
of Professor Murdoch as Vice-Chancellor was $126,431. This included the following costs: 
 
•  Advertising 
•  Recruitment agent 
•  Catering  
•  Printing  
•  Travel 
•  Sundry costs 
 
Please note that the total cost noted above is based on the amounts that were recorded under a 
specific code set up in our finance system’s coding structure for the VC recruitment process. The 
accuracy of the information is reliant on staff applying the correct code for invoices. It is possible 
that some invoices may have been accidentally recorded using other codes.
