Dear Frank
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 6 June 2023 requesting
the fol owing information:
-Could you please provide a list of each of the stations in NZ with their current
earthquake rating (%nbs) at IL4.
The New Zealand Police portfolio across the country are comprised of buildings with
varying size and function. Some properties are single-story remote buildings and others
are multi-level urban buildings. Not all Police properties require a seismic assessment.
The A3 Building Importance Level (IL) classifications refer to occupancy post-disaster,
hence not all Police facilities have a post-disaster function. Most of the Police building
portfolio with front-facing functions have been rated to IL2, with some exceptions which
some are listed in the below table. For a property to be rated IL4, there are other building
requirements that assist post-disaster response capability. Across the Police portfolio of
308 stations, this is achieved on a case-by-case basis. Police review the status of its
properties within its portfolio in advance of major upgrades, when required under
regulation, or when there is a change in regulation.
