Dear Cody

Request made under the Official Information Act 1982

Thank you for your email of 1 June 2023 requesting the following information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act):

Are there any improvements planned for the Hornby Intersection in the next 10 years? Please
supply details. If not, how would someone propose said improvements?

For clarity, I am referring to the intersection of Main South Road, Shands Road and Carmen
Road.

Near this intersection, two activities have been included in the short list of projects for consideration in
the 2023-24 State Highway Investment Proposal (SHIP). These activities are the SH1 Hornby Access
and Development Programme Business Case, and the SH1 Hornby Hub and Corridor Safety and
Optimisation Single Stage Business Case. Both have the potential to result in short-term and longer-
term improvements in the vicinity of this intersection. If approved, the business case work is scheduled
for the 2024-27 period.

Subject to inclusion in the final SHIP, these activities will then go through an assessment and
prioritisation process as part of the Regional Land Transport Plan, and then for inclusion in the
National Land Transport Programme (NLTP).

Further information about the development of the 2024-27 NLTP, including indicative timing, is
available at: https://www.nzta.govt.nz/planning-and-investment/national-land-transport-
programme/202427-nltp-development/

In line with Waka Kotahi policy, this response will soon be published on our website, with personal
information removed.
