Your request for official information, reference: HNZ00021097
Thank you for your email of 13 June 2023 asking for the following which has been considered
under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act):
“I would like to request the number of applications for registrar radiology training positions,
successful applicant numbers and those figures separated by regions in NZ and years
(last 10 years).
Please also provide information on the postgraduate year of those applicants for the last
10 years.”
Te Whatu Ora does not hold any information regarding the number of individuals who applied for
radiology training positions, only the number who are in training. Therefore, we are refusing your
request under section 18(g) of the Act, as the information you have requested is not held by Te
Whatu Ora and we have no grounds to believe that the information is held by another agency
subject to the Act.
You may be interested to know that information relating to the number of applicants who applied
for radiology training is held by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (the
College). While the College is not subject to the Act, you can find their contact details at:
www.ranzcr.com/contact.
As alternative based on the data that Te Whatu Ora receives from the Medical Council, as of 31
Mar 2023, we have identified 135 doctors are being trained in
Diagnostic & Interventional

This is the total number of trainees in all stages of training. The Royal Australian and New Zealand
College of Radiologists has more detailed information.
