Official Information Act request 23.47 AI in Assessment 
I refer to the Official Information Act (the Act) request dated 25 May 2023 for information relating to Artificial 
Intelligence (AI) in assessment. You have requested the fol owing: 
•  Could you please provide al  policies regarding the use of AI in assessment. 
 
This is a dynamic field and the University guide  academic staff on how best to approach the use of AI tools in 
their courses. 
 
The University of Canterbury has a diverse range of study op�ons in more than 150 different subject areas, and 
our Course Coordinators wil  ensure students are appropriately updated on specific course requirements. 
 
Our website reflects this approach with a statement on the use of AI – generated text here. Therefore, this 
request is refused under s18(e) of the Act, as the documenta�on does not yet exist, as it is under development. 
 
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision. Information about
