Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 6 May 2023 requesting 
information about Electronic Monitoring (EM) and the Buddi system. Your request is being 
considered under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA). 
 
We have decided to grant your request in part, namely information which relates to the 
following: 
 
•  The OIA response to Debbie Porteous of the Otago Times. 
•  The number of people who were subject to EM during September, October, and 
November 2021. 
•  The number of times a low battery alert was generated due to a person failing to 
charge equipment in September, October, and November 2021.  
•  The average number of people subject to EM during September, October, and 
November 2022. 
•  The number of faults recorded for Smart Tags during September, October, and 
November 2022.  
•  The number of times a low battery alert was generated due to a person failing to 
charge their equipment in September, October, and November 2022.  
 
However, it will take us some time to prepare this information for release. We will send you 
that information as soon as possible. We have also decided to refuse your request for 
information which relates to the following information under section 18(g) of the Official 
Information Act, as the information is not held by Corrections: 
 
•  The number of faults recorded for EM equipment during September, October, and 
November 2021. 
•  The number of equipment items returned for repair during September, October, and 
November 2021. 
•  The number of faults recorded for EM equipment other than Smart Tags during 
September, October, and November 2022.  
•  The number of equipment items returned to the supplier during September, 
October, and November 2022.
