Thank you for your email of 28 April 2023 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) 
requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), the fol owing information: 
 
• Any advice provided by MBIE to Ministers in the last five years on the cost and benefits of hosting the 
Commonwealth Games . 
• Any documents provided to Ministers in the last five years which reference potentially hosting the 
Commonwealth Games. 
 
On 9 May 2023, you rescoped your request to the following: 
 
• Any advice provided by MBIE to Ministers in the last five years on the cost and benefits of hosting the 
Commonwealth Games in 2034 . 
• Any documents provided to Ministers in the last five years which reference potentially hosting the 
Commonwealth Games in 2034. 
 
I am writing to advise you that MBIE will provide a response but needs to extend the time available to 
answer your request. MBIE’s response will be sent to you no later than 21 June 2023. 
 
The reason for the extension is that consultations with external agencies necessary to make a decision on 
your request are such that a proper response cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit.
