Dear Grant
Request for information
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 11 April 2023, in which you asked:
Pursuant to the Official Information Act 1982 please provide me with copies of the current
Organisation Structures for the Wel ington, Tasman, Canterbury and Southern police districts.
In January I made a similar request for the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Eastern and Central districts and
in February I was provided with the information in the form of spreadsheets showing the
organisation structures of those districts by Cathryn Curran-Tietjens your Executive Director -
People Operations (Ref: IR-01-23-781) and I would appreciate it if the information for the above
districts could be provided in the same format.
Attached is a spreadsheet which provides a view of the New Zealand Police Canterbury, Tasman,
Southern and Wellington district organisation structures as at March 2023.
The Police organisation structure is based on position management. Every employee has a position, but
not every position has an employee.
The spreadsheet records active positions but some will be vacant, inactive or in the process of being
disestablished. This means that there wil always be more positions than there are staff and counting the
positions does not equate with the number of staff.
You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review my decision if you are not satisfied with the
response to your request. Information about how to make a complaint is available at:
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz.
Yours sincerely
Cathryn Curran-Tietjens
