Official Information request - Advice provided by Attorney-General to Ministers on importance of
complying with statutory obligations

Dear Mr Leigh
I refer to your email of 3 April 2023 in which you sought the following information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (OIA):
1) any advice you have provided to other Ministers on the importance of
upholding the law; and
2) any advice you have provided to your office about the importance of the
Attorney-General modelling best practice in complying with law in all your
ministerial roles.

The Attorney-General is not subject to the OIA in the performance of his or her Law Officer
functions. I therefore decline your request, as the documents you seek are not subject to the OIA.
You have the right, by way of complaint to the Ombudsman under section 28(3) of the OIA, to seek
an investigation and review of my decision on your request for information.

Yours sincerely

Hon David Parker
Attorney-General
