I refer to your information request dated 25 March 2023 made under the Official Information Act 
1982 (the Act). You have requested: 
 
 
“the grade distributions of the following papers by the number of students with each grade, 
by number and letter, for the specified time frames: 
 
1. GENE221 (S1, 2022) 
2. BIOC221 (S1, 2022) 
3. ANAT241 (S1, 2022) 
4. GENE222 (S2, 2022) 
5. GENE223 (S2, 2022) 
6. ANAT243 (S2, 2022) 
7. PATH201 (S2, 2022) 
8. FORB201 (SS, 2023) 
9. RELS214 (SS, 2023)” 
 
 
Subject to the following comments, please see attached the information you have requested. Please 
note that there are three pages in the attached spreadsheet (for 2022 Semester 1, 2022 Semester 2, 
and 2023 Summer School papers). 
 
•  These results are correct as at 4 April 2023. 
 
•  on occasions where fewer than five students have failed a paper (i.e. received a grade of Fail 
D, Fail E), we have determined that it is necessary to withhold the marks and specific grades 
for these students to protect their privacy and wellbeing. We consider that withholding this 
information is necessary to protect against the identity of these students being determined 
or inferred, and their personal information (i.e. their marks) could be disclosed. We 
therefore withhold this information pursuant to section 9(2)(a) of the Act. 
 
•  in the attached mark and grade distributions, we note that students who withdrew from the 
papers and students who gained an Aegrotat Pass (where no mark or grade is awarded) are 
excluded from the data.

In the above cases, we consider that good reasons exist for withholding information, and this is not 
outweighed by other considerations which would make it desirable, in the public interest, to make 
the information available.
