Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 22 March 2023 to the 
Department of Corrections – Ara Poutama Aotearoa, requesting information about 
electronic monitoring. 
 
You have requested: 
 
•  All copies of workforce planning work not limited to business cases, reports and 
modelling related to workload of electronic monitoring in the monitoring center 
•  All documents relating to the use of online apps relating to electronic monitoring 
•  All documents relating to the national electronic monitoring field services 
procurement plans. 
•  The roadmap of electronic monitoring technology at Corrections. 
  
We are continuing to consult with other business groups within Corrections to collate the 
information you have requested and to make decisions about your request. We have 
identified information in scope of your first and third questions, and further consultation is 
required to determine what we may be able to release and what needs to be withheld in 
accordance with the provisions of the OIA. 
 
In relation to your second question, we are unlikely to have information in scope, as no app 
is used for electronic monitoring. 
 
We would invite you to clarify your request for ‘the roadmap of electronic monitoring 
technology at Corrections’. We have interpreted this as being a request for information 
about future technology which may be introduced by our electronic monitoring technology 
provider, Buddi, and used at Corrections. Please advise if this is correct, or if you would like 
to clarify this question. 
 
Corrections needs to extend the timeframe of our response to your request by 30 working 
days, pursuant to section 15A(1)(a) of the OIA, as the request is for a large quantity of 
official information or necessitates a search through a large quantity of information and 
meeting the original time limit would unreasonably interfere with the operations of the 
department, and pursuant to section 15A(1)(b) of the OIA, as consultations necessary to

make a decision on the request are such that a proper response to the request cannot 
reasonably be made within the original time limit.  
 
Therefore, you can expect to receive a response to your request by 6 June 2023.  If you no 
longer require this information, please let us know as soon as possible.
