I refer to your information request dated 18 March 2023 made under the Official Information Act 
1982 (the Act). You have requested: 
 
 
“the grade distributions of the following papers - COSC 201 and COSC 202 in S1 2022, COSC 
203 and 204 in S2 2022. INFO 201 from the past 4 years and INFO 202, INFO 204 from the 
past 4 years as well.” 
 
 
Subject to the following comments, please see attached the information you have requested.  Please 
note that there are four pages in the attached spreadsheet (one for COSC papers and one each for 
INFO201, INFO202, and INFO204 papers). 
 
•  These results are correct as at 22 March 2023. 
 
•  On occasions where fewer than five students have failed a paper (i.e. received a grade of Fail 
D, Fail E), we have determined that it is necessary to withhold the marks and specific grades 
for these students to protect their privacy and wellbeing. We consider that withholding this 
information is necessary to protect against the identity of these students being determined 
or inferred, and their personal information (i.e. their marks) could be disclosed. We 
therefore withhold this information pursuant to section 9(2)(a) of the Act. 
 
•  In the attached mark and grade distributions, we note that students who withdrew from the 
papers and students who gained an Aegrotat Pass (where no mark or grade is awarded) are 
excluded from the data. 
 
•  In Semester 1 2020, all grades were bumped up by 5 marks due to potential Covid-19 
difficulties encountered by students.

In the above cases, we consider that good reasons exist for withholding information, and this is not 
outweighed by other considerations which would make it desirable, in the public interest, to make 
the information available.
