Following up in regards to reports of an incident at Turanga yesterday during Queens Telling Stories.
Can the council confirm there was a group of Voices for Freedom protestors outside the library before they entered the building?
How was the situation resolved?
The library was well prepared for any disruption. They had effective security strategies in place, and the event went ahead as planned.
Was there any reports of assault/injuries?
No.
Were council aware of any potential protest activity?
Yes and extra measures were in place to make sure everyone attending and performing was safe.
How disappointed is the council that a community event was hijacked by this group?
‘Queens Telling Stories’ at Tūranga is a fun family event to celebrate diversity, inclusivity and love. We have held this sort of event in the past and know they are always well supported by our
Christchurch community.
Are there any more planned events of this nature (involving members of our queer community) in Christchurch that council knows of?
This event is part of Christchurch Pride which is running until March 19. There are more events:
