I refer to your Official Information Act 1982 request dated 11 March 2023 for information
regarding your infringement notice PR6070136.
You requested:
I request the Calibration Test for the Speed Camera and a copy of photographic
evidence.
Please find enclosed the following:
•  Image of alleged offence
•  Letter of explanation regarding static cameras
•  Certificate of accuracy (CoA) for the camera in question
•  CoA for the site’s alignment.
It should be noted that under section 146 of the Land Transport Act 1998, al  operational
speed detection equipment, including safe speed cameras, radars, lasers, and vehicle
speedometers are required to be calibrated annually. The responsibility for testing and
certification rests with Police Calibration Services, an International Standards Accredited
Laboratory, based in Wel ington.

Letter of Explanation – Static/fixed Safety Camera

Below is a sample image and explanation of the details found on a Static/Fixed Safety
Camera photograph

You recently received a Safety Camera Infringement Notice, as the owner of the vehicle,
alleging that your vehicle exceeded the speed limit.

Static Camera photographs are identified by a 9-digit ICN Number (incident control
number), which always starts with the number “4”.  See the top right corner on your
photograph.

Static Cameras can detect vehicles travelling in both directions. Towards or Away.

The camera uses a radar-based system to measure a vehicles speed and position on the
road.  The photograph shows the lane your vehicle was travelling in. Lane A is the closest
lane to the camera, then Lane B and so forth.

The placement of the arrows in the blue ellipse means the technical specifications of the
camera are working correctly.

Photos often show more than one vehicle. The green oval indicates the strongest radar
signal.
