Dear R S Grant
Extending the time to respond to your request made under the Official Information Act 1982
Thank you for your email of 11 March 2023 requesting the fol owing information:
Can you please confirm whether the speed limit on the new Puhoi to Warkworth motorway wil
be 100kph, as recently reported?
If that is correct, please provide any information you have that explains why this speed limit
has been chosen as opposed to the 120kph which would be normal for a motorway of its
apparent standard in Europe. I would specifical y like to know whether the road has been
designed to a lower standard than required for a 120kph road, or whether its design is in fact
suitable for 120kph speeds but the lower limit has been chosen for reasons unrelated to the
design of the road - in which case I would like to know those reasons.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is extending the 20 working days available to us to respond to
your request, as al owed for under section 15A of the Act. We need 12 more working days to respond
to your request and wil send you our response on or before 28 April 2023.
We are extending the deadline as the consultations necessary to make a decision on your request are
such that a thorough response cannot reasonably be made within the 20-working-day limit.
Under section 28 of the Act, you have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review my decision to
extend the time we wil take to respond to your request. You can find the contact details for the
Ombudsman at: www.ombudsman.parliament.nz
If you would like to discuss this extension, please email [NZTA request email].
Yours sincerely
