Official Information Act (OIA) request: Small and medium sized businesses 
 
On 10 March 2023, you contacted Stats NZ requesting, under the Official Information Act 
1982 (the Act), the fol owing information: 
 
Please supply al  advice, memos and reports provided to senior government 
officials and Members of Parliament, inclusive of Cabinet, on the status of small 
and medium sized business in Aotearoa New Zealand from 2018 to March 2023.  
 
This includes analyses of financial health, sales revenues, insolvency and 
involuntary closure (including bankruptcy).  
 
If this is in those reports, status by sector, agricultural, commercial, trades, 
manufacturing or approximate. 
 
Stats NZ has not provided any advice, memos or reports to senior government officials, 
or Members of Parliament, on the status of smal  and medium sized business in Aotearoa 
from 2018 to March 2023. Your request for this information is therefore refused under 
section 18(e) of the Act as this information does not exist or, despite reasonable efforts to 
locate it, cannot be found. 
 
Stats NZ does publish information on the activity and performance of businesses in New 
Zealand on our website here. You may be interested in the fol owing in particular: 
•  The Annual enterprise survey statistics measure the financial performance and 
position of businesses operating in New Zealand. 
•  The Business financial data gives quarterly information on sales, purchases, 
salaries and wages, and operating profit for a wide range of industries in the New 
Zealand economy.
