RESPONSE TO AN OFFICIAL INFORMATION ACT REQUEST
On 13 February 2023, you contacted the Ministry for Pacific Peoples (the Ministry) requesting under
the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA), information relating to nominations received by the Ministry and
the Minister for Pacific Peoples. On 28 February 2023, you submit ed a subsequent request regarding
the Ministry’s regional networks and senior leadership team. I have outlined your specific requests and
my responses to each below.
•
May I ask during the past 3 years (2022,2021,2020), how many nominations during the "Call for
nominations" stage you have received, please separate the data by different issued occasion,
e.g. New Year and King’s Birthday.
•
When you submitted to the Minister’s office, how many nominations the Minister has agreed to
support and how many Minister declined.
The table below outlines the number of nominations the Ministry received during the “call for
nominations” stage, the number of nominations agreed to by the Minister and the number of
nominations declined. For nominations that are declined by the Minister, the Ministry may instead look
to nominate them for a future round.

I noted, you referred to the "Regional Partnerships unit", please specify what does this mean, if
it is your internal team, please provide the full org chart of this Regional Partnerships unit team.
•
Can you specify what is your regional network? If it is a list of organization, can you please
provide name of these organizations. Also, Ministry’s senior leadership staff, can you please
provide who you consider as your senior leadership staff.
The Ministry’s Regional Partnerships unit is the Ministry’s community connections team that engages
and builds relationships with our Pacific communities and partner organisations across Aotearoa; the
‘regional networks’ you ask about are the relationships with Pacific communities and organisations that
our Regional Partnerships unit hold – there is no set list of organisations. You can find more information
about the Regional Partnerships unit on our website here:
www.mpp.govt.nz/about-us. I have appended
the organisation chart of the Regional Partnerships unit (refer Appendix One). The Ministry’s senior
leadership team is known as Tautua
1 and information about them can be found on our website here:
www.mpp.govt.nz/about-us/executive.
In line with standard OIA practice, the Ministry proactively publishes some of its responses to OIA
requests. As such, this letter may be published on the Ministry for Pacific Peoples’ website. Your
personal details wil be removed, and the Ministry wil not publish any information that would identify
you or your organisation.
Should you wish to discuss this response with us, please feel free to contact the Ministry at:
[email address].
If you are dissatisfied with this response, you have the right, under section 28(3) of the OIA, to seek an
investigation and review by the Ombudsman. Information about how to make a complaint is available
at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
