RESPONSE TO AN OFFICIAL INFORMATION ACT REQUEST
On 2 February 2023, you contacted the Ministry for Pacific Peoples (the Ministry) requesting
under the Of icial Information Act 1982 (OIA), information relating to the Ministry’s board
appointment process and vacancy. I have outlined your specific requests and my responses to
each below.
1. A list of vacancy (ministerial appointment only, e.g., board member, Lay member, Trustee
etc) that the nomination period has been closed but stil under consideration by the
Ministry or relevant Minister.
The Ministry does not publicly advertise for board appointment vacancies that it monitors. When
there is a vacancy, the Ministry has discussions with the relevant Board’s Chair, undertakes
consultation with its regional networks and the Ministry’s senior leadership staff. The Ministry
also maintains a nominations database of skil ed Pacific peoples who may be considered for
appointments.
2. Information on any future opening in 2023 (e.g; the position wil call for nomination in the
year of 2023)
In 2023, the following Boards wil have openings:
• Centre for Pacific Languages Board – Chair and one member role
• Pacific Business Trust Board – four member roles
• National Pacific Radio Trust (jointly appointed by the Minister of Pacific Peoples and the
Minister for Broadcasting and Media) – two member roles
In line with standard OIA practice, the Ministry proactively publishes some of its responses to
OIA requests. As such, this letter may be published on the Ministry for Pacific Peoples’ website.
Your personal details wil be removed, and the Ministry wil not publish any information that would
identify you or your organisation.
