Dear John
Thank you for your email of 31 January 2023 to Kāinga Ora requesting the following information
under the Official Information Act 1982 (Act). As you are aware, this request was transferred to Te
Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga – Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (Ministry) as the information
request falls under our responsibility. Your request states:
“I would like to request a list of vacancy (ministerial appointment only, e.g. board member,
Lay member, Trustee etc) that the nomination period has been closed but still under
consideration by the Ministry or relevant Minister.
In your list, can you please included the date that vacancy been advertised, what method you
have used to publicly advertise the position, how many application you have received and
when the vacancy been closed as well.
Also, I would like to know if you have any future opening in 2023. e.g. the position that will
call for nomination in the year of 2023.”
List of vacancies – closed but under consideration
The Tāmaki Redevelopment Company Ltd Board (TRC Board) is the only board with vacancies that
meets the definition you have set out in your request. These are joint appointments with Auckland
Council, which holds 41% of the shares in TRC. The Board can have a membership of five to nine;
it currently has five directors.
At least two candidates were sought in 2022 for upcoming vacancies on the TRC Board. The
positions are still under consideration.
Date of vacancies announced and method of advertising
The call for nominations for the TRC Board opened on 8 July 2022 and closed on July 2022. The
positions were advertised online and nominations were invited from the Labour Party Caucus and
the Nominating Agencies (Ministry for Women, Ministry for Ethnic Communities, Te Puni Kōkiri, the
Ministry for Pacific Peoples, and the Ministry of Disabled People). Overall, 52 nominations were
received.
Future vacancies in 2023
There is one board member term expiring on 31 December 2023 on the board of Kāinga Ora –
Homes and Communities. The Ministry has not received instructions from Ministers on any calls for
nominations for this or any other role in 2023.
