Thank you for your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) to Manatū Hauora (the
Ministry of Health) on 24 January 2022 for information regarding the Therapeutics Products Bil (Bill).
Information in response to each part of your request is outlined below:
“With the current Therapeutics Products Bil currently in front of the select committee, please
provide me with the evidence, scientific peer reviewed studies and other documentation being used
to support the rationale on why this bil is required.
Manatū Hauora has published information regarding the Therapeutics Products Regulatory Regime on
our website here:
https://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/regulation-health-and-disability-system/therapeutic-
products-regulatory-regime. Please refer to the publicly released Cabinet papers and regulatory impact
statements for the rationale on why the Bil is required and the intended purposes of the Bill.
Please also provide me with how many people have died or been hospitalised due to taking
supplements or natural remedies in the last 10 years and the name of the supplement or natural
remedy that caused it.”
