I refer to your official information request dated 21 January 2023 asking for the following
information
.
The 'outdoor pyrotechnic display written agreements', notification forms and display
plans/worksheets for all fireworks displays in Queenstown, South Island, for November and
December 2022 and January 2023
In accordance with the provisions of the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA), please find below a
response to your request.
I have identified five pyrotechnic displays that Fire and Emergency New Zealand received
documents for within the requested time frame. Three of these were received in November 2022
and two in December 2022. Four of these displays occurred on New Year’s Eve 2022 and the other

agreements or plans in January 2023.

Some information has been withheld from these documents to protect the privacy of natural
persons under section 9(2)(a) of the OIA. Other information containing information about the
displays themselves (including but not limited to the types of pyro used, exclusion zones and the
discharge area) has been withheld under sections 9(2)(b) of the OIA, because the making available
of the information would either disclose a trade secret or be likely unreasonably to prejudice the
commercial position of the person who supplied the information (being the business that
submitted the application for the displays). Having carefully considered the public interest in
release of the information, we consider that any public interest in release of the information you
have requested can be met notwithstanding these redactions.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision.
