Official Information Act request: Home detention for youth offending
Thank you for your email of 11 December 2022, requesting information relating to home
detention for youth offending. Your request has been referred to me for response as Group
Manager, Courts & Tribunals, Regional Service Delivery and is being managed in
accordance with the provisions of the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act).
Specifically, you requested:
Since October 2017 until 07/12/22 how many youths aged 19 and under have been
sentenced to home detention for the following crimes.
Sexual violation (rape)
Sexual conduct with consent induced by threats Sexual conduct with a child
Attempted sexual violation and assualt with intent to commit sexual violence Sexual
conduct with a person under 16 years old Indecent assualt
Male assualts female.
Aggravated assulat
Assualt with intent to injure
Intentionall injuring a person
Wounding with intent to cause injury
Injuring with intent to cause grevious bodily harm wounding with intent t cause
grevious bodily harm
In response to your request, please refer to
Table 1 attached, which provides the number of
people between 14 and 19 years of age sentenced to home detention, broken down by
offence type and financial year, between 1 October 2017 and 30 June 2022.
Data from 30 June 2022 – 07 December 2022 will be available in March 2023. This is
because the data for this response forms part of the Tier 1 financial year statistics. Tier 1
statistics are published twice a year in March (for calendar year data) and September (for
financial year data). More information about Tier 1 statistics is available from
www.data.govt.nz/use-data/showcase/official-statistics/
