Information Request 
I refer to your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 8 December 2022 in which you requested 
the following information:  
1. Al  vehicles used and the quantity in the Tasman District (As outlined at
https://www.police.govt.nz/about-us/structure/police-districts/tasman?nondesktop...
2. I would like it broken down by department e.g. Highway, PST. This includes vehicles used
and quantity per department
3. I would like it broken down by station/area e.g. al  vehicles based out of Nelson Central,
Richmond, etc.
4. I would like every single vehicle and its brand and model.
Please refer to the appendix, which contains information for the whole of the Tasman District where 
stations such as Nelson Central and Richmond are located. Vehicles are often moved around within 
the District to meet changing deployment and logistical demand. Due to this fluidity, it is not possible 
to provide a breakdown of vehicle deployments to station/area level. That breakdown is therefore 
refused under section 18(g) of the OIA, as the information is not held. 
The information was sourced from the Master Fleet Summary, a document that changes daily. This 
can be for several reasons, such as a vehicle reaching the end of its service and being 
decommissioned, replaced by a new vehicle, or transferred to a different working group.  
The data contained in the attached table is an excerpt from the Master Fleet Summary on 14 
December 2022, so any changes made after that date wil  not be reflected. 
The al ocation of resources to specialised working groups is operationally sensitive and must remain 
confidential to uphold the maintenance of law. For this reason, the al ocation of resources to some of 
the specialised work groups has been withheld under section 6(c) of the OIA, as the making available 
of that information is likely to prejudice the maintenance of the law. I have supplied several vehicles 
assigned to the specialised working groups, but not to such a granular level where it compromises the 
confidentiality of those working groups.
