May I ask how did you call for public nomination and on what platform you have call 
for public nominations, e.g. govt.jobs website. 
Also, how many applications you have received from the public and how many you 
have received from other nominating agencies such as TPK or ministry of women. 
In  response  to  part  one  of  your  request,  the  panel  you  refer  to  is  the  Independent  Waste 
Investment  Assessment  Panel  which  covers  both  the  Waste  Minimisation  Fund  and  the 
Plastics Innovation Fund. The Ministry for the Environment (the Ministry) did not call for public 
nominations,  the  Ministry  advertised  the  vacancies  through  the  Institute  of  Directors,  the 
Ministry’s  website,  and  through  well-established  sector  groups  including  WasteMINZ,  the 
Waste Management Industry Forum, and Zero Waste Network. 
In response to part two of your request, the Ministry received 47 applications. All applications 
received by the Ministry were from the public, none of the applicants were from nominating 
agencies. 
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Office of the Ombudsman of my 
decisions relating to this request, in accordance with section 28(3) of the Act. The relevant 
details can be found on their website at: www.ombudsman.parliament.nz.
