Response to your request for official information
Thank you for your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) to Manatū Hauora |
Ministry of Health on 26 November 2022 for information regarding the Pfizer Comirnaty vaccine.
You requested:
“How many million doses of Pfizer Comirnaty (adult, child and booster) has NZ already
purchased and agreed to purchase in the future in any signed contracts with the
manufacturer, Pfizer?”
The total number of doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine purchased to date is 18.58 million. This
includes 1.75 million paediatric doses (for those aged 5-11 years). There is no differentiation
between booster and adult doses, noting these are the same product. Approximately 1.95
million of these purchased doses are still to be delivered to New Zealand.
We note from 1 July 2022, Pharmac has taken over the management of COVID-19 vaccine
supply, including managing future purchasing. We have directed your inquiry to Pharmac for
their response who have noted there are no signed future agreements at this stage. Further
information can be found on Pharmac’s website here
: https://pharmac.govt.nz/news-and-
resources/covid19/covid-19-vaccines/.
I trust this information fulfils your request. Under section 28(3) of the Act, you have the right to
ask the Ombudsman to review any decisions made under this request. The Ombudsman may
be contacted by email at:
[email address] or by calling 0800 802 602.
Please note that this response, with your personal details removed, may be published on the
Manatū Hauora website at:
