Dear Sean
I refer to your information request dated 20 November 2022 made under the Official Information
Act 1982 (the Act). You requested a copy of the 2022 Otago Medical School MB ChB Admissions
Statistics report.
We note we contacted you 22 November 2022 to clarify the information you were after, as there is
no MB ChB Admission Statistics report containing information in relation to entry to the 2022 MB
ChB programme. Your response of 22 November confirmed that you would like to receive
information in relation to admissions to the 2022 MB ChB programme (equivalent to section 3 of the
2021 Admissions Statistics report).
Please see below our response to your request, broken down by admissions category.

Please note that it is the University’s standard practice to not report on GPA scores which relate to
fewer than five individuals where we consider that such disclosure could affect an individual’s
privacy and wellbeing. Where the numbers are very low, there is a risk that the identity of these
individuals could be determined/inferred, and that their personal information (i.e. their GPA scores)
could be revealed. As there were fewer than five applicants to receive offers to the 2022 MB ChB
programme via the Graduate Socio-economic sub-category, we withhold the minimum GPA score to
receive an offer for this sub-category pursuant to section 9(2)(a) of the Act. We do not consider that
the reasons for withholding this information are outweighed by other considerations which would
make it desirable in the public interest to make the information available.
