Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request dated 1 December 2022 (ref OIA2223-0450)
Thank you for your OIA request dated 1 December 2022 to Te Tari Taiwhenua DIA. You
asked for the following information:
• Please confirm if DIA had/has access to Facebook’s takedown portal;
• Please provide the guidelines for flagging/censoring/down ranking content posted by
New Zealanders, people residing in New Zealand, and media with content relating to
New Zealand and New Zealanders; and
• Please provide the number of Facebook posts DIA has accessed through the portal, or
at least an indication of the scope of interference.
You also asked us to forward your request to all government departments, or advise on the
best way to get your request to al departments.
We responded to part one of your request on 1 December 2022 as that was part of a
separate request for information under the OIA. In addition, we attempted to make available
to you the contact email addresses of other government departments to assist you with
obtaining official information from those departments, but these addresses never reached
you. We also included a link to the Public Service Commission’s website which provides a list
of all central government organisations and links to their websites which note how to send
your OIA requests, but that never reached you either.
On 8 December 2022, we sought evidence of your eligibility to make a request under the OIA
because we believed that there was a genuine need to do so. On 22 December 2022, you
advised that you wil not be revealing your full identity due to multiple reasons and you
declined to provide evidence of your eligibility to make a request under the OIA.
As we do not hold any evidence of your eligibility to make a request under the OIA, we are
declining to reply to parts two and three of your request as noted above.
If you are dissatisfied with our decision on your request for information, you have the right,
under section 28 of the OIA, to make a complaint to the Office of the Ombudsman.
The Office of the Ombudsman can be contacted by phone on 0800 802 602, via post at PO
Box 10152 Wellington or via email to
[email address].
Ngā mihi
