Thanks for alerting us to this request. As you are aware, these ethnographic briefings were produced for internal
government consumers, and so were not prepared with the specific legal considerations around public release (in
the way for example we have worked with DIA to prepare public versions of previous reports).
We dealt with a previous OIA request in 2020, and 9(2)(g)(ii)
predecessor) provided us with the chance to
carefully review the proposed releases, and prevented sensitive information from being released on national

security grounds.
Perhaps we could jump on a call to discuss the specific context around this request, e.g. do we know how there was
public awareness around these specific reports being produced, or was this a more generic request?
It would also be great to know what timeline you had in mind. ISD’s legal lead is back on Thursday and will want to
review this.
