2. What is being done to ensure all the current people in the recruitment process wil
be selected for a wing.
Police allocate placement on recruit wings based on the needs of each Police district. By
closing Canterbury for new applicants this increases the chance for existing applicants to
be offered a place on a wing.
3. When is Canterbury likely to be an “open” region on the recruitment website.
The status of districts being open to accept applicants is under constant review. At this
stage there hasn’t been any decision to change the current status, and it is therefore not
known when the status will change.
Please note that as part of its commitment to openness and transparency, Police
proactively releases some information and documents that may be of interest to the
public. An anonymised version of this response may be publicly released on the New
Zealand Police website.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this
decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
