Information Request – medal wearing policy 
 
I refer to your official information request dated 25 September 2022 asking for the following 
information. 
 
“I would like to request a full copy of any of your internal policy or manual in relation to 
medal wearing. Do you have approved medal mounting company list, if so please supply 
your list. Also, who cover the medal mounting cost for your fireman?” 
 
Please find enclosed Fire and Emergency New Zealand’s medals, honours and awards policy dated 
8 August 2012.  Although this was last reviewed in 2012 it is still current References to the New 
Zealand Fire Service should be read as references to Fire and Emergency New Zealand. The policy 
should also be considered in conjunction with the information on the Department of the Prime 
Minister and Cabinet website here.  
Fire and Emergency do not have an approved medal mounting company list and the medal 
recipient covers the cost of the mounting. 
 
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision.
